Kezar Lake (May 31, 2007 - Jun 05, 2007)
Kezar Lake (NHSWKZLK) North Sutton, NH (USA) Lat,Long: 43.36337,-71.94828 Map 50 species 1 trip (6 non-trip sightings)
Situated 5 miles south of New London next to the village of North Sutton, Kezar Lake is about a mile long and a half mile wide. Follansbee Inn is situated at the east end by the town beach and next to the Baptist church and the old cemetery. Maples, locusts and pines have replaced the elms which must have linked the few streets 50 years ago. Brushy marshes extend south and west from the lake. The south shore is mixed forest - mostly hemlock, red pine, red maple, birch and other hardwoods - with smallish lakefront cabins. The north shore was apparently wealthier - stately white farmhouses separated by tracts of hardwood forest. A slender forested island extends out into the lake from the north side. A country road, partly pavement and partly "hardpack", makes a 2.9 mile circuit of the lake and provides a great birding route.
