The Columbia Gorge trail runs along the Oregon side of the river, traversing steep slopes forested with Doug Fir, Big Leaf Maple and a few other species. Some areas have been burned, others cut, but much of the way is through mature forest with open understory. The trail crosses numerous streams and passes spectacular waterfalls, particularly in the western part.
