Malvern Hills (UKENMALVRN) Malvern, EL (GBR) Lat,Long: 52.07539,-2.33787 Map Elevation: 1000 feet 52 species 4 trips (2 non-trip sightings)
The Malvern Hills are a north-south trending line of summits along the west edge of the Severn River valley (the Vale of Evesham?) about 20 miles SW of Birmingham in western England. The peaks rise 500-800' above the valley and are open on top, mostly short-cropped pasture fringed with gorse, bracken and blackberry thickets, with forested slopes consisting of birch, maple, chestnut, basswood, ash, beech, oak, hawthorne and hazelnut, along with a mix of introduced conifers in some areas. The neighboring countryside is mostly rural with small villages surrounded by pastures, wheat and barley fields and meadows enclosed by hedgerows, with scattered patches of mixed hardwood forest. West of the Malverns the topography is rolling hills while to the east the mostly flat valley extends about 20 miles to the east before rising to the Cotswold plateau.
