Sentinel Mountain is the high point on the western end of the long ridge known as Saddle Mountain which runs east from the Columbia River about 15 miles south of Vantage. The ridge is an uplift composed of layered basalt which rises about 2000' above the river. There is no permanent water in the uplands; dominant habitats are sagebrush and grassland.
