Five and a half mile long rail trail along the Cedar River from Hwy 18 overpass in Maple Valley to the Landsberg trailhead north of Ravensdale. The route is mostly wooded and about half residential. Habitats include mature Douglas fir and mixed conifer forest, cottonwood and alder groves, residential yards with open areas, thickets and ornamentals, the river and small wooded ponds and sloughs. Sunny, 58F, calm Ran from mile 2.1 road crossing down to Maple Valley and back with frequent stops for birding - mostly by ear.

Cooper's Hawk 2   Seen and heard at about the three mile mark. One, possibly juvenile, flew over with slow, stiff, mechanical-looking wingbeats, quite odd. Calls included a loud, somewhat nasal "chih" and a softer series of lower-pitched notes "che che che che che che che che che". Two birds alternated calling.
