Monroe Prison Farm Pond 2013-05-08

The first few miles of the Snoqualmie River valley south of its junction with the Skykomish River a few miles southwest of Monroe. Area is mostly agricultural - pastures, fields, cropland and small woodlots with scattered ponds and sloughs. High Bridge Road follows the west edge of the valley and Hwy 203, the Monroe-Duvall Road, the east edge. The area includes multiple eBird sites, including the Monroe Prison Farm Pond. ST overcast clearing, 63F, calm With Susan, scoped the pond and surrounding area from the concrete pad along 203rd St. Sightings recorded in the field and submitted from BirdLog for Android v1.6
The site is a grassy/marshy pond with adjacent fields and farm buildings along 203rd St SE about 2.5 miles south of Monroe. We drove out to see the Ross's Goose and were impressed with the diversity of ducks onsite. Sightings recorded in the field and submitted with BirdLog.
Ross's Goose 1   Continuing bird - small white goose with black wingtips, small pink bill with no black ""grin patch"", with Cackling Goose and Canada's. With the Cackling Goose and several Canada Geese, flew off to S over 203rd St around 3:20PM and was not relocated.
Cackling Goose 1   Small dark Canada-type goose with Ross's and much larger Canada geese, the size different evident in flight.
Canada Goose 15   Count does not include at least a dozen goslings
Trumpeter Swan 1   Continuing bird - a large adult swan. Bill large, straight and all black with wide gap in front of eye, pointed forehead feather-border and curve rather than angle at gape.
