2013-05-19 05:30 for 2 hrs 20 mins (birding) 46 sightings Methow Valley (WAOKMETV) Winthrop, WA (USA) Lat,Long: 48.49647,-120.14897 Map Elevation: 2000 feet
The Methow River drains the east side of the North Cascades from Lake Chelan to the Canadian border. Habitats include a ribbon of cottonwods along the river, pastures and residences in the valley, meadows with varying mixtures of bitterbrush, sagebrush and serviceberry on the lower hillsides with scattered groves of aspen, ponderosa pine forest and mixed coniferous forest. Overcast clearing to mostly sunny, 45-55F, light breeze at times. I parked at the Lloyd Ranch Trailhead along Bear Creek Road, walked down the road to the middle park entrance then north over the hill to the upper park entrance road, over to the marshy pond near the entrance station then back along the state park and Bear Creek roads to the car.
Habitats included riparian aspen groves, open bitterbrush/sagebrush/bunch grass hillsides, a shallow pond with cattails and other emergent vegetation and small open groves of Ponderosa pine. Sightings recorded with BirdLog for Android while in the field.
