Methow Valley Hwy 2013-05-20

The Methow River drains the east side of the North Cascades from Lake Chelan to the Canadian border. Habitats include a ribbon of cottonwods along the river, pastures and residences in the valley, meadows with varying mixtures of bitterbrush, sagebrush and serviceberry on the lower hillsides with scattered groves of aspen, ponderosa pine forest and mixed coniferous forest. Sunny, 70F, light breeze Susan and I stopped for a Lewis's Woodpecker and noted a few birds along the Methow Valley Hwy from 5 to 8 miles south of Twisp, WA.
Habitats included dry brushy hillsides with scattered Ponderosa Pine, irrigated hay fields, a couple of small irrigation ponds. More incidental sightings than an actual bird count.
