Narrow canyon w/ riparian cottonwood, oak, Ponderosa pine, Douglas fir, varied understory. Canyon slopes brushy or rocky - cliffs and talus - w/ scattered pine and fir. Location is on N side of Hwy 12 about 6.5 miles W of jct w/ Hwy 410 west of Naches. Overcast, light rain followed by partial clearing, 49-57F. David and I walked up the canyon until wet bushes became too wet, then explored side canyon to the north, climbing up to the rim and back down. Total distance 3 miles.
Birds quiet until rain stopped.
