2013-05-24 16:50 for 4 minutes (birding) 23 sightings Sprague Lake (WALCSPRLK) Sprague, WA (USA) Lat,Long: 47.28923,-118.02298 Map Elevation: 1900 feet
Sprague Lake and surrounding area - channeled scablands w/ varying proportions of sagebrush and bunchgrass, small pothole marshes and ponds, the lake and the nearby town of Sprague. Mostly cloudy (cumulus), 54F, wind SW 15-20 We drove in to the resort and paid $5 each to watch birds for an hour, including the mixed flock of blackbirds foraging on a recently planted patch of dry gravelly ground around an unused outbuilding.
Though we didn't do a complete count, the area had lots of birds. Habitats included the lake, rushes, cattails and willows along the shore, lawns and shade trees around the resort, fallow fields to the west and shrub-steppe grassland farther afield.
