Shrub steppe, marshes and lakes, pastures, dry cropland near the town of Wilson Creek and along highway 28 in Grant County.
Mostly clear, mid-50's, calm
David and I turned off Hwy 28 onto 20.5 road, drove up the hill a quarter mile then turned left and drove south about .2 miles to a T intersection. We turned right at the T and drove west for .4 miles to a parking area on the left, where we camped, and noted a few birds singing around dusk. Bunchgrass and sagebrush on irregular terrain with grassy hollows and low rocky outcrops. We came upon a porcupine in the road and managed a photo or two before it retreated to a den in the rocky outcrop just east of the parking area.
