Toppenish NWR consists of marshes, ponds, fields, willows and adjacent greasewood flats and sagebrush slopes along the south edge of the Yakima valley. Overcast, around 60F, east breeze, light rain. David and I drove south the last mile of Lateral "C" road to Pumphouse Road, stopping in several places to watch birds, and by the stream to eat lunch.

Killdeer 3   Partly-feathered young
Wilson's Snipe 2   Display flight - a long gradual glide with wings held stiffly up at 45 degree angle, calling ""kyeh kyeh kyeh kyeh kyeh kyeh..."", somewhat nasal and medium pitch. Either drops into marsh afterwards or perches on fencepost.
