Cape Horn Trail 2013-05-28

The trail starts at the park and ride along Hwy 14 at Salmon Falls Road, 10 miles east of Washougal. The upper trail ascends through mature Big Leaf Maple forest with lush understory up into mature second-growth Doug fir along the rim of a steep bluff and cliffs overlooking the western Columbia Gorge, then traverses more deciduous forest just north of the rim for a mile or so to open fields around the Nancy Russell Overlook before descending back to Hwy 14 through more maple forest. David and I parked at the park and ride and hiked up the upper Cape Horn trail to the west (Nancy Russell) overlook.
